Vacate Anand Vihar in eight weeks: Gujarat HC

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court has paved the way for the redevelopment of Anand Vihar Society of the Gujarat Housing Board on 132-ft Ring Road in Vastrapur by ordering dissenting members of the colony to vacate their houses in eight weeks. The court observed that majority members could not be made to suffer at the insistence of a few members. The dispute among 132 members lasted for four years after 101 members agreed to redevelop the society in 2018. They decided to go for redevelopment, looking at the dilapidated condition of the 40-year-old building that was beyond repair. They signed the consent letter for redevelopment and requested GHB to initiate the process. The board accepted the proposal and roped in a developer. It asked residents to hand over possession of properties and remove illegal constructions in the society built by some members. Besides the dissenting members, some who had given consent for redevelopment refused to vacate their houses. The GHB issued three notices in 2019 and 2020. Those who were pushing for redevelopment approached the court and submitted that 82% of members were in favour of redevelopment. After hearing the case, Justice Sandeep Bhatt accepted the decision of society members for redevelopment. TNN
