Actor Priya Marathe, best known for her role in the popular television show Pavitra Rishta and several Marathi films, passed away in Mumbai on August 31, 2025, after battling cancer. She was 38. According to reports, Marathe had been battling cancer for the past year. As per a report by Maharashtra Times, the actress had been undergoing treatment for cancer, but despite medical care, her condition kept deteriorating. Her last post dates back to 2024, when she visited Amer Fort in Jaipur with her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe. She had posted multiple touristy photos from her visit. Her second last post was an all-decked up picture of herself wearing a nauvari saree and nath. Priya Marathe’s glorious career graph Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Priya Marathe was a well-known face in both the Marathi television and film industry. She rose to prominence with her portrayal of Varsha in the hit soap opera Pavitra Rishta, a role that made her a household name. She also earned acclaim for her performances as Vidya Bali in Kasamh Se and Jyoti Malhotra in Bade Acche Lagte Hain, both produced under the Balaji Telefilms banner. Apart from television dramas, Priya showcased her versatility as a stand-up comedian and actor, winning audiences with her strong screen presence and vibrant personality. Her body of work included popular shows such as Char Divas Sasuche, Tu Tithe Mi, Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji, Ya Sukhano Ya, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe, Bhaage Re Mann, Jayastute, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap, among others. She was also seen in the first season of Comedy Circus. In 2023, Priya stepped away from the Marathi show Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe citing health concerns, after which she largely stayed away from the public eye.
