AHMEDABAD: The Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG), which had started the annual process of ranking state-based universities in May, has not made any progress in the process. This has led to a lot of speculation among the varsities. KCG conducts the annual process in which all universities - private and government run - that want a state ranking are evaluated on set standards. Usually, the process begins in November and rankings are announced in May. However, this process began only in May this year due to the pandemic situation. Sources said that as the KCG has outsourced the process to a private agency, the universities are required to pay between Rs 41,300 and Rs 82,600 depending on their size, to participate in the process. KCG pays this agency around Rs 50 lakh annually for this service. Sources said that KCG has the capacity to conduct this ranking process on its own but still outsources it to a private agency, which is questionable. If KCG conducts this process on its own, then it can considerably cut down the expenditure.
