After a stellar career of over 22 years with Tata Consultancy Services and a successful stint as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer during the last six years, Rajesh Gopinathan on Thursday (March 16) stepped down from the company to pursue other interests. The TCS Board, headed by Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran, appointed K Krithivasan as CEO designate with immediate effective.Current role: Krithivasan is the Global Head of the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) Business Group at TCS, India’s largest IT company. BFSI is the largest segment within TCS. He handles one of the largest portfolios of $11 billion, which has grown consistently.He will work with Gopinathan to transition into the role of MD and CEO in the coming fiscal year.Qualification: Krithivasan completed his schooling in Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, before moving to Coimbatore for his undergrad. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Madras. He acquired a Master’s degree in Industrial and Management Engineering from IIT Kanpur.34 years experience: Krithivasan, who has been with TCS since 1989, has held various leadership roles in delivery, customer relationship management, large program management, and sales. Before his stint as the Global Head of BFSI Business Group, he was the Industry Solutions Unit Head for the Banking and Financial Services group.He has been responsible for planning and executing growth strategies, improving financial performance, building deep customer relationships and mindshare, as well as market positioning. He has played an integral role in helping customers in banking, financial services, and insurance, with digital transformations, change management cycle acceleration, value delivery, technology strategy, and governance.Krithivasan is on the Boards of Directors at TCS Iberoamerica, TCS Ireland, and TCS Technology Solutions AG.From Chennai to Mumbai: Chennai is one of the biggest centres for TCS in terms of talent. Krithivasan started his career at TCS in Delhi and later spent some time in Los Angeles before moving to Chennai. He will now be moving to Mumbai as he takes on the position as CEO designate.Learning Sanskrit: Krithivasan likes running in his spare time. He is an avid reader who is happiest while reading books during his leisure time. Over the last 2-3 years, he has been taking an intensive Sanskrit course.Co-workers and friends describe him as “humble, kind and spiritual”. However, he describes himself as a religious person rather than a spiritual one. He enjoys spending his time with his close friends and family. He has met some of his closest friends at TCS during his three-and-a-half-decade-long career.
